If you believe that what is in OSM does not match what is on the ground, I’d suggest discussing it in the forum. Also it’s worth reading this.

This subject is new to me, but the region seems to be recognised by 46 UN membership states.
Wikipedia was just a quick way to get some background; as suggested above, it may be worth discussing on the forum.
