OpenStreetMap Carto release v4.7.0

Posted by kocio on 26 January 2018 in English.

Dear all,

Today, v4.7.0 of the openstreetmap-carto stylesheet (the default stylesheet on the OSM website) has been released. Once changes are deployed on the openstreetmap.org it will take couple of days before all tiles show the new rendering.

Changes include

  • Adding icon for tourism=apartment
  • Adding icon for leisure=firepit
  • Yellow background for amenity=arts_centre
  • Start rendering natural=heath earlier
  • Start rendering entrances
  • Changing tourism=picnic_site icon colour to green
  • Move emergency=phone to higher zoom level
  • Rendering seasonal waterways as intermittent
  • Update Noto fonts to Phase III
  • Fine-tuning of bridge labels
  • Documentation changes and updates

Thanks to all the contributors for this release.

Thank you very much for your engagement! I appreciate your work expecially since I know there are so many issues and so few to resolve them.

I’m nevertheless wondering why there are about 4(!) overlapping issues regarding castle/fort - and nobody is daring to consolidate them? https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+castle .

It’s perhaps only a pull away to add such an obvious icon which often has no conflict in the woods.

Is it just because there are so few maintainers on the OpenStreetMap Carto style (Daniel, Andy and…)?

Thanks!

Well, while our team is 8 persons strong in practice recently only 1-2 persons at any given moment are deciding and merging code.

That might sounds bad, but anybody can design an icon or prepare the code or suggest an idea and there are few people who try to do that. I hope there will be more of them and that’s why I ask a lot if somebody would like to try (do you?).

That’s the only way I can think of to solve more issues in the long run.
