Hallo Kreuzschnabel, kann deinen Frust verstehen. OSM ist bei weitem nicht das Projekt das es sein könnte. Auch meine Ansprüche waren zu hoch, zumindest für die Community. Lokal gab es nie Probleme und alle haben gerne meine Hilfe als alter Hase angenommen.

Ich hab mich komplett aus der sogenannten Community zurückgezogen und es nie vermisst. Was interessiert mich Wiki, die x-te ie endende Forumsdiskussion übers gleiche Thema oder XY Working Group …

Aufs Mappen konnte ich trotzdem als alter Erdkundler trotzdem nicht ganz verzichten. So beheben ich weiterhin Fehler oder trage neue Objekte ein.

OSM voranbringen, das können andere machen … “Hauptsache es läuft … und wenns den Bach runter ist.” sagt ein Kollege von mir immer gern :D

Is it still relying on the hardware of keepright.at? Will it be integrated in OSM hardware? Or is keepright.at funded by OSM organizations?

I agree with a lot of things Ilya said in this discussion. OSM is in long term very frustrating, if you are not willing to just contribute building shapes.

It would need a lot of improvement, and there are people trying to contribute, but their work is not accepted neither respected by veteran gatekeepers. Even if it is not proper work, the community should encourage them, they will improve. But most of the time they get blamed for their good will.

Global changes are not possible IMHO, but even local changes are very hard because even there were you know what you are talking about, a glorious gatekeeper knows it better, while he was never on the ground, seeing the problem. Because “we” (they are very long part of osm and see them as osm) are doing it that way! (What about any tags you like? Doing it in your free time? What about the data users view? …)

I contributed to a lot of open source and community projects over the last 20 years. OSM was definitively the most difficult one.

Just my five cents, I will not join the discussions any further (sth I learned also in this project: do-ocracy).

Some weeks ago I read again a very old but good article about successful community projects: “Cathedral and Bazaar”. Maybe someone knows it … it may maybe also give us a hint why osm is dying … or why osm has a future.

Sicher, ist auch lustig zuzusehen, zumindest bis zu dem Punkt an dem die Daten fast so wie vor dem Neubau aussehen.

Look on the bright side, no exception means also no error. Next time you get an error you can maybe log the stacktrace and find the problem. Either with Eclipse or with Netbeans or with some other tools.

Good work either! I’m now starting my daily work … debugging other persons problems. :)

If you got a stacktrace then put a breakpoint to each line mentioned in the output and start JOSM out of eclipse in debug mode (the bug icon). Redo your previous clicking actions in JOSM.

Now you can see step by step where the exception comes from and you can check the variables.

Muss zugeben, dass die Änderung bei mir auch noch nicht ganz übergegangen ist. Aber zum Glück gibts Mapper die trotz allem auch noch Fehler korrigieren.

Mich stört, dass es viele Beispiele für bescheuerte Massenedits und Datenmüll gibt, wo man mit Sperren durchaus drohen kann. Normalen Mappern, die sich um Fehler kümmern, darauf hinweisen, Neulinge begrüßen und Adressen sammeln und 50 Einträge am Tag mappen sollte man aber anders begegnen können und muss sich nicht unbedingt über deren Arbeit lustig machen. Da geht jede Möchtegernrepresentative Arbeit den Bach runter und man verliert engagierte Mapper die den Spaß daran verlieren.

Jetzt kann man natürlich unterstellen, dass man jeden Node 5 Minuten angucken und die Historie aller Mapper durchgehen muss. Man kann aber auch akzeptieren, dass nicht jedem alle beschissenen Testdaten sofort auffallen, sofern die Tags in Ordnung sind. Da wird sich meistens schon jemand was dabei gedacht haben, wenn er sich die Mühe gibt. So das man eben den Fehler behebt und weitermappt. Der Kommentar mit Hinweis kam erst hinterher, dann sind natürlich alle schlauer.

Aber keine Sorge, OSM darf ab sofort Rechtschreibfehler behalten und offensichtlichen Datenmüll auch. Den den ich nicht sofort erkenne darf auch gerne weiterhin von anderen gelöscht werden. OSM Datenchaos ist ab sofort nicht mehr mein Problem.
