Excellent! The $64,000 question is - are roads without a surface tag assumed to be paved or unpaved?
Comment from SomeoneElse on 13 January 2023 at 13:29
(answering my own question) - roads not know to be paved or unpaved are shown the same as before, which is how paved roads are now. This tile, the area around here, shows that.

Thanks for paved / unpaved. Will there be rendering for Ice roads like osm.org/way/651548293#map=16/51.4979/-57.4899 ?

In this case, the ice_road=yes is tagged on the relation for this route osm.org/relation/9068170

Is there a screenshot showing the difference between untagged / paved / unpaved Road variants? I scrolled through the Github ticket showing various graphics but it’s not clear to me whichbturned out as the eventual way styling that was shipped.
