When i download a standard map for PDF, it gets very heavy to work with in Illustrator. Is there any way to reduce size and compelxity before downloading in PDF?

Is the situation any better if you get the download as SVG rather than PDF?

No, not much, but i found a solution wich is:
download your maps as osm from openstreet.
Open osm-file in Maperitive and download from there.
Then open and re-export from Illustrator.
That made it.
