Hi! Indeed weird situation, the sign is half-way through. I'm not the original contributor from that parking but from my experience, when i've been mountain biking in this area, I've been parking there time to time for more than 15 years, never had a problem and I've seen other cars too. Since there is a sort of public recreation/picnic area, great chances that it is indeed a parking otherwise i don't see how people from other towns could take advantage other than going by bicycle or hiking.
Hi Joost! I found other examples with a restriction to vehicles traffic sign on the entrance to more obvious parkings for features of public interest in the surroundings,
Here in the recreation area of Kockelscheuer, it's clearly stated "parking" on one of the signs though:

Or with the Roman Villa of Goeblange. Funny extra, there are even 2 board signs, before entering and after the parking.

I do remember a discussion with Stereo that this sign was more perceived like "restricted but access is OK to a specific destination". Letting you the resolvation if you think it's OK.
Have a nice day!
Yeah, that makes sense. If it is clearly the intent of the authorities that you ignore the traffic signs a bit, then we should map their intention.
